Magic Hikes

The experience

A guided journey through nature. Once a month we walk a Bay Area trail together and let the healing energy of the outdoors, and the optional support of a little Magic, deepen our connection with the natural world and with each other.

We open in circle with a short meditation and intentions, share a silent stretch of trail, check in at the midpoint and close in circle. You are invited to bring poetry, song or spiritual questions along the way. Magic is always optional: walking with the trees and good company is plenty.

Highlights

  • Opening circle with a short meditation and intention sharing
  • A silent walk of about 15 minutes
  • Midpoint check-in circle
  • Room for poetry, song and spiritual questions on the trail
  • Closing check-out circle

Safety

Safety on the trail

Journeying outdoors is beautiful, and it asks for a little more care than journeying indoors. Javi and Seba stay sober throughout and walk with the group the whole time.

  • Start low, go slow. Sun, heat and moving your body can make Magic feel stronger. Take less than you would indoors; you can always take a little more later.
  • Mind your footing. Trails can be steep, rocky or slippery. If your balance feels off, slow down, take less or none.
  • Stay with the group. If you need to step away or rest, tell one of us first. Raise a hand any time you need support.
  • Water, sun and layers. Drink often, wear sunscreen, and bring a warm layer: the Bay Area changes fast.
  • Stay on the trail. Watch for poison oak and check for ticks after the hike.
  • Respect the trail. Be kind and discreet with other hikers, and leave no trace.
  • Plan your ride home. Please do not drive until you feel fully clear; carpooling or a ride is best.

Questions

How do I sign up?

Pick a date under Next dates and register on Acuity. Each date lists its meeting point, and the details come in your confirmation email.

How much does it cost?

Magic Hikes are donation-based, with a suggested donation of $25. If that is not possible right now, register with code DONATE and give what feels right. We would rather have you there.

What should I bring?

Hiking shoes with good grip, plenty of water, a snack, layers for Bay Area weather, sunscreen and a hat. Poetry, a song or a question you are living with are welcome too. BYO Magic, always optional.

How hard is the hike?

Medium: we usually walk 2 to 4 miles at a slow pace, with stops, over about three hours. Trails can be uneven or steep in parts. If you have questions about access or mobility, write to us before you register.

Can I come without Magic?

Of course. Many people walk with breath, trees and company alone. Magic is never required.

Do I need to bring my own Magic?

Yes. All our offerings are BYOM (Bring Your Own Magic). We do not provide or sell Magic or Sacred Plant Medicine of any kind. Please consider that in the state of California it is legal to share among consenting adults.

Can I bring my dog?

No pets or emotional support animals on our hikes, thank you.

What if the weather is bad?

Hikes are weather permitting. We do not go out in heavy rain, thunder or lightning, or under a weather advisory, and we will let you know by email.

What are the community agreements?
  • Treat everyone with respect, including their privacy.
  • Confidentiality: please do not share other people's names or stories after the hike.
  • Compassionate communication: listen from the heart, speak from the heart.
  • 21+ and BYO: no buying, selling or soliciting.
  • A harm reduction approach.
  • No pets or emotional support animals.
